The structure decides it. If the walls and floor are sound, almost everything else is refreshable and renovation is far cheaper than replacement. What pushes a pool toward replacement is structural failure: shifting walls, major floor cracking, or a shell that will not hold water regardless of what goes over it. We tell you which one you have before you spend anything.
It depends entirely on scope, which is why we quote per project rather than publish a number. A liner-only refresh starts in the range of a liner replacement, roughly $4,500 to $8,000. Adding coping, deck repair, new equipment, and automation moves it well beyond that. We price each piece separately so you can stage the work.
A liner and equipment refresh is usually one to two weeks. Adding coping, deck work, or structural repair extends it, and any custom liner still needs its 2 to 4 week manufacturing window. Concrete and epoxy work also need cure time and reasonable temperatures, which is why scheduling matters as much as scope here.
Early fall or spring. Fall is the easiest: the season is over, calendars are open, and the pool is finished before it goes into winter, so you open a renovated pool in April instead of waiting on one. Vinyl, concrete, and epoxy all need moderate temperatures, so deep winter is not workable in our climate.
Yes, and it is often the smarter order. Pumps, filters, heaters, salt systems, and automation can all be replaced independently while the pool stays in service. Federal efficiency standards mean a replacement pump is usually variable-speed, and the drop in running cost frequently pays back the difference within a few seasons.
Vinyl that has gone brittle or faded, coping that is loose or cracked, decking that has heaved or spalled from freeze-thaw, rust showing at wall panels, a single-speed pump that is expensive to run, and no automation to speak of. Any one of those on its own is a repair. Several together usually means renovation is better value than fixing them one at a time.
